The Edinburgh Natural History Society

A society for everyone who enjoys nature, wants to learn more about our local biodiversity and who values sharing that curiosity with like-minded people.

Since 1869 the Edinburgh Natural History Society has brought together enthusiasts of all levels, from beginners and casual observers to experienced naturalists, to explore, learn and record the natural world around us.

Throughout the year, we run events which offer the chance to deepen your knowledge, develop your field skills, and experience the diverse and ever-changing environment in our city and beyond.

Spending time in nature not only helps you discover more about the world around you — it also supports your mental and physical well-being, offering a renewed sense of connection to your surroundings.

There has never been a more important time to connect with our environment and to foster and nurture an understanding of nature. Whether you’re fascinated by plants or insects, birds or mammals, galls, lichens or fungi or simply love being outdoors why not join us?

Everyone is welcome!

"If we care about our common future and the common future of our descendants, we should all in part be naturalists.”
