Start the morning looking at the contents of the overnight moth trap. Those interested in invertebrates will be poking around and watching for activity.

Afterwards a walk in the local area to see how rapidly the area changes. This area of North Edinburgh has areas that were abandoned many years ago and now, bit by bit, are being occupied by housing. You will see areas of post-industrial succession and the influence of the Firth of Forth nearby.

Be guided by the weather forecast when choosing clothing, footwear needs to offer foot protection if visiting unkempt sites.

Bring lunch and drink. There will be shops nearby.
